Strathfest developed from the Badenoch and Strathspey Music Association, which originated as the Badenoch Music Society in 1953. The festival for school-age musicians has taken place almost every year since, at first for Badenoch entrants, then expanded to include Strathspey schools, and now Strathfest welcomes entrants from anywhere in the Highlands, Moray and beyond.
After a three year break, The Grantown Society took over Strathfest. The Society was keen to continue the amazing legacy of music in Badenoch and Strathspey and to ensure the engagement of young musicians by re-starting Strathfest.
Strathfest is run by a very small group of volunteers, who not only organise and manage the whole event, but who dedicate a lot of time and effort to raising money to pay for the festival to take place each year.
